After yet more stunning river views from our hotel in the lovely morning light, we left for the fourth leg of the trip. Since the route walking all the way from Bad Ischl to Altausee was closed due to falling rocks (and because it was maybe too demanding on not fully fit knees), we took the alternative. This starts with a train to Au and then follows the old salt route (some of it on old Roman roads) all the way to Altausee. We climbed to an altitude of just over 1000m and had great views of the distant mountains. Once we had arrived at Altausee and we were installed at the hotel, we went swimming in the rather lovely lake.
